2010 Kindergarten Registration and Open Enrollment

Kindergarten Registration will take place between February 23 and March 23 at children's school of residence.  A child must be at least five years old on or before December 2, 2010, to enter kindergarten. Please spread the word to your friends and neighbors and encourage them to register by March 23.  Decisions regarding staffing levels for next year are largely based on enrollment numbers as of March 23, so students who register late may have difficulty finding a space at their neighborhood school.

Open Enrollment is offered to parents who wish to send their children to a school other than their school of residence.  Open Enrollment applications are accepted for all schools on a space-available basis, as long as they are received at the child's current school (or neighborhood school if they are not yet attending a district school) by March 23.  In the event that there are more requests than space available, a lottery will be conducted.  Once approved, the transfer remains in effect for the remainder of the students education level (elementary, middle, high).  Sixth grade students who wish to attend a middle school other than their neighborhood school must go through Open Enrollment, and eighth grade students wishing to attend a high school other than their neighborhood school must do the same.

In addition to general open enrollment opportunities, the district offers two special program opportunities which parents may wish to consider:  1) a Two-Way Language Immersion Program (English and Spanish) at Pacheco Elementary School for kindergarten and first grade entry, and 2) a program for high-achieving students entering grades 4 through 6 at Charles E. Teach Elementary School.
